Jon Peterson: A Brief Biography

Jon Peters, an American film producer born on the 2nd of June, 1945, gained fame for his work on movies like “The Color Purple”, “Flashdance”, and “Batman”.

Peters’ net worth, as of late 2016, is reportedly over $200 million, amassed over his 40-year tenure in the film industry. His journey began in Van Nuys, California, as the son of Jack Peters, a cook, and Helen, a receptionist.

During his early years, he worked in a salon owned by his mother’s family, which led him to venture into the film industry. In 1974, Peters designed a wig for the renowned actress Barbara Streisand, with whom he developed a significant partnership, ultimately becoming her producer. Their collaboration resulted in the album “Butterfly” and Streisand’s blockbuster film “A Star is Born”, paving the way for Peters’ successful Hollywood career and increasing his net worth substantially.

In 1980, Peters partnered with Peter Guber and Neil Bogart to establish the production company Polygram Productions, later renamed Boardwalk Company, which produced hit films like “Missing”, “The Color Purple”, and “Flashdance”, elevating Peters to prominence in the film industry and significantly growing his wealth.

Expanding into Chuck Barris Production, the company evolved into Guber-Peters-Barris, continuing to churn out blockbuster movies, including the successful hero film “Batman”. Their triumphs not only solidified their position in the film industry but also earned them leadership roles at Sony Corporation for which they were offered a billion dollars.

After departing from Sony, Peters established his own production company, Peters Entertainment, delivering hits such as “Batman Returns”, “Ali”, “Wild Wild West” and “Superman Returns”, adding a string of awards and nominations to his accomplishments and further enhancing his net worth despite facing some setbacks, such as a lawsuit for sexual harassment. The lawsuit brought both financial and career ramifications. Currently, Peters remains active in Hollywood but with a reduced movie production volume. Among his recent projects is the remake of “Man of Steel” in 2013.

Aside from his movie ventures, Peters founded the Peters Family Foundation that supports several charities including The Christopher Reeves Foundation, Homeboy Industries, The Laurence School, My Friends Place, Cambodian Children’s Fund, and Heartfelt Foundation.
